Gimp can't bucket fill

To add some more detail to the situation, I started Gimp, made a new drawing, used the ellipse tool to make a circle, used the bucket-fill to fill it, nothing happened, used the paintbrush and pencil tools next to color the selection and nothing happened. Triend uninstalling and reinstalling gimp and same result.
